EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT

YOUNG CRITICS PROGRAM

The Young Critics Program strives to incubate and foster the next generation of arts critics.

Through monthly workshops with critics, editors, writers and theater artists young critics will learn the fundamentals of arts reporting and criticism by attending performances across the greater Boston area.

  • Participants receive a mentor to meet with twice throughout the program.

  • They are able to work on building their skills as writers while also having the one on one opportunity to learn from professional arts critics.

  • Young Critics are given free tickets to monthly showings along with discounts and other opportunities to experience Boston’s thriving art scene. 

  • The program also provides a stipend to Young Critics to ease the financial burdens of travel and other necessities to participate in the program. 

APPRENTICE & INTERN PROGRAMS

APPRENTICESHIP

The Front Porch Apprenticeship provides hands-on experience working in a professional theater company and supporting the mission and values of The Front Porch Arts Collective.

This Apprenticeship is intended for college seniors, recent college graduates and young professionals looking to expand their skills in working at a non profit professional theater. 

Apprentices are a part time position and work a full season with our staff.

Apprentices can expect to:  

  • Support the artistic team and staff with our upcoming productions (company management work with artists, supporting tech rehearsals, previews and opening nights) 

  • Support with casting and producing our Reading Series (attending rehearsals and performances)

  • Reading plays for season selection (providing feedback on scripts, connecting and identifying themes of plays with Front Porch’s mission and values)

  • Support and assist any education programs and events (assist the Director of Education with implementing the Young Critics and Young Company program)

  • Producing and Directing the Boston Theater Marathon Selection

INTERNSHIP

The Front Porch Intern program connects students from colleges in the Boston area with hands-on work during the school year or summer.

The Front Porch employs interns through the Tisch Scholar Program, students at Tufts are given a full year internship with The Front Porch either as a Research or Producing Intern.

  • Interns will work with supporting the main stage productions and season events while also gaining experience working at a professional theater company.

  • Interns work a maximum of 8 hours per week and meet weekly with their Staff Supervisor to ensure their work and tasks are completed.

  • The Research interns focus on creating dramaturgy packets for main stage productions while also maintaining and updating our website with press releases, information and other resources.

  • The Producing interns support the Producing team on mainstage productions and the reading series.

  • The Front Porch also employs interns from other institutions like Boston Conservatory to provide Artistic & Marketing Internships to students.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS

COMMUNITY NIGHT PERFORMANCES

Designated performances cultivating black and brown audiences in order to create a welcoming environment in a theatrical setting. Includes a Free Pre Show event and food with a discounted ticket price.

COLLEGE NIGHT

Designated performances cultivating college and university communities in the Boston Area. Provides a $15 ticket including a pre show mixer with free food and drink with a talk back following the performance.

COLLEGE PANELS

Free Meet & Greet Panels with The Front Porch Staff and Artists featured in the season. Panels will promote upcoming seasons, education and community programs along with any upcoming fundraisers, including Q&A. Master class for audition technique or other focuses upon request and fee.
