Front Porch Arts Collective brings to the stage a stirring new production of The Wash, a powerful drama inspired by the historic 1881 Atlanta Washerwomen’s Strike — one of the largest labor strikes led by Black women in American history.
Directed by acclaimed artist Tasia A. Jones, this fiercly human and timely play follows a group of Black washerwomen fighting for dignity, fair wages, and the right to control their own labor in the aftermath of Reconstruction. Blending music, movement, humor, and heart, The Wash honors the resilience, sisterhood, and revolutionary spirit of women whose courage helped lay the foundation for future movements for labor and civil rights.

Helmed by The Porch’s Producing Artistic Director Maurice Emmanuel Parent, Working is a moving call for recognition, respect, and social justice for those who keep society running.

In a powerful new production directed by Haitian-American director and Front Porch Associate Artistic Director Pascale Florestal, The Waterfall is a deeply moving exploration of motherhood, identity, immigration, and the impossible weight of expectation across generations.
As a successful Haitian-American lawyer confronts the truth that she does not want children, she is forced into a devastating reckoning with her mother, her heritage, and the life she has built in pursuit of everyone else’s dreams. Sweeping between present-day America and vivid memories of Haiti, playwright Phanésia Pharel crafts an intimate, funny, and emotionally charged story about what we inherit, what we resist, and what it means to choose ourselves.
